  • A FLOATING KITCHEN

The project consisted mainly of a kitchen renovation and the addition of a studio on the terrace. In addition, minor modifications were made to the floor plan of the bedrooms and on the rooftop terrace, the position of the jacuzzi was changed to maximize the views of the square and the park, and the covered area of the triplex was increased to create the studio.

The apparently simple commission had a difficulty, the client wanted a design piece with a strong identity to solve the cooking and eating space.

Starting from this point is that we began the development of the proposal of a design kitchen, not limiting ourselves to think a kitchen or a table but to approach the problem with all the complexity of an architectural piece. This is how we began to speculate with one of the central themes of architecture, structure and gravity, and it is in the tension between these two things that the project moves.

Special attention was paid to the subtlety of the final piece, in particular to the thicknesses and edges; a rigorous study of the geometry was necessary to achieve a design that met the ergonomic requirements while maintaining the appropriate thicknesses and that upon entering only a floating plane “without structure and almost without thickness” is perceived; but that minimal design that appears in a first impression shows its complexity when sitting in the living space and show all its power. In order not to distract attention from the floating table, a luminaire was designed and built specifically for this space.
